Aimee Fortune LaMotte hated Nick Drummond, and with good reason. The rogue gambler had swindled her father out of everything he owned. And then the handsome Yankee had demanded a passionate night with Aimee to pay off her own gambling debts, leaving her with an illegitimate child in the bargin.

Years later, an officer in the despised Union army, Nick reentered Aimee’s life as the South lay in flames. And though the beautiful belle’s heart cried out for revenge, she was undone by the unexpected gentleness and nobility of the man who had wronged her five years before. She could not deny the irresistible desire that drew her into the powerful, loving arms of her enemy, and forced her to … Surrender to the Fury.

The only reason why this book is 3 stars instead of 2 is because it kept my attention.

Aimee was extremely annoying, not so much that it stopped me from reading even though I wanted to. She was annoying because her reasoning just didn't seem logical to me. Her hatred felt contrived and forced. She was ridiculous because her family was starving yet instead of marrying a man that proved himself to care for her and trying to not hurt. She was carrying unreasonable hatred against him because of where he was born. Even Savannah her companion was reasonable when it came Nick. Like really? The only other option was to become a prostitute and instead of being happy to come out of a desperate situation she is sitting cursing the man and acting like the decision was really that difficult.

I might have been able to understand her hatred if as a reader I felt she was just a tortured heroine and she had a reason for feeling the way she did, but I didn't see it. Especially because from the moment Nick came into her life, her son wasn't starving and she was protected.

I also didn't understand why they fell in love with each other. Nick was altogether too sweet and nice and Aimee was the one always carrying around the anger. I think Aimee did everything possible for Nick to hate her, but he didn't so you could tell he really loved her. Regardless of this, I don't understand their love story. This is one area where I believe many authors make the mistake. They don't allow the characters to develop a relationship. They don't allow them to spend time together and learn about their past and talk about common interest or just life in general. Nick and Aimee conversation consisted of the back and forth of Aimee telling Nick he hated her and Nick telling Aimee he cared and wanted her. Aimee also refused to admit to Nick, even though he suspected and possibly knew, that Brand was his son. So that was what their conversation consisted of.

Brand spoke years older than his age at times and it really took me out of the story. It's almost as if the author couldn't quite decide how to make a 5 year old speak like a 5 year old.

Surrender to the Fury edition by Connie Mason Romance eBooks Reviews

I have read many books by Connie Mason, and never been disappointed. I can honestly say that this book is my all time favorite. Aimee is one of the most stubborn characters, however, you can't help too love her and her strength. Great job Connie Mason!!! I am off to read another one of your great accomplishments. Happy Reading!
Great book. The plot developed well and the hero is an extremely likeable character. The heroine is very angry and makes a lot of poor decisions. The book takes place at the end of the Civil War. Hero is with the Union and heroine is a confederate rebel. I felt they did a good job depicting the conditions of the south before it fell. Worth reading.
It was ok had to much going on.
The h was the most annoying person. I have no idea how this, romance got so many good reviews. I like Mason romances but this was just annoying and stayed annoying through out.
. I should of just stop reading but for some reason I thought it would get better. I would not recommend unless you love whiny h.
I like Connie mason and I like this book but it felt incomplete the min character was immature and her constant claims of hatred for nick seemed out of place it felt as though their wasn't enough explication of places characters etc it felt rushed not her best work
Set during the Civil War, except for Chapter One. SURRENDER TO THE FURY lives up to the genre of historical romance in so many ways beginning with the factual dates and accounts in American history. Even real historical figures made cameo roles albeit just a mention in the storytelling.

Nick Drummond, a Captain in the Union Army met Southerner Aimee Trevor 5 years to the day from their first encounter. But this time, they are enemies and not as lovers. Yet the attraction between them cannot be denied. And though they tried to be indifferent to each other, they had to surrender to their feelings at some point in time.

Unfortunately, during wartime,,love is not enough. Duty and loyalty take precedence. SURRENDER TO THE FURY tells the story of how Nick and Aimee found their HEA against all odds,

Rated M for Mature due to sexual content and subject matter.
Wasn't worth finishing. I got half way through the book and found myself completely bored with the heroine and hero. Heroine spends her time complaining, being stubborn and whinning at everyone. Hero spends his time chasing a rather ungrateful and bratty woman. Whole story was just slow and didn't seem to go anywhere.
